Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals has informed that they are looking to arrange a training camp in Delhi ahead of the commencement of the T20 league in UAE from 19 September. But the final call will be taken only after the IPL Governing Council meeting on Saturday(August 1).
Earlier, IPL was scheduled on 29th March with the match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians but the coronavirus white-washed all the plans. BCCI finally got the free window to re-arrange the league after ICC proclaimed the postponement of the T20 World Cup which was scheduled in October-November.
We are looking at a camp from August 15: Delhi Capitals’ Official
The Indian players haven’t played a match since March when the coronavirus spread worldwide. So, to get back them into the groove while maintaining the social distance regulations, Delhi Capitals are planning to organise net sessions.
“While the BCCI has informed us about the dates of the tournament, we are waiting for some finer details from the governing council meeting. Once that is done, a final call will be taken. As of now, we are looking at a camp from August 15, but that is subject to change as per the outcome of the GC. Once the owners are given the directives by the BCCI, we will hit the ground running,” a DC official said while speaking to IANS.
Amid the ongoing pandemic, the IPL franchise would have an added burden for the safety of player’s health. For that, BCCI has shared the basic plan but the franchise is waiting to get more details.
The IPL franchise and broadcaster will have the meeting with the governing body on the 2nd and 3rd August. After this, Delhi Capitals will take the final call.
“See, the GC will clear a lot of doubts with regards to logistics when it comes to UAE. So, after that, we can also think of having a camp sooner in the city, or just assemble here and head to UAE at the earliest. One thing is clear, the foreign players will be directly coming to the UAE,” the official added.
In the last edition, under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals first time reached the playoff the IPL. This year fans have higher expectations from the team.
