Delhi Daredevils are set to release quite a few big names ahead of the upcoming auction for the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The national capital-based outfit is one of the perennial underachievers in the league. More often than not, they have ended up with the wooden spoon.
In eleven seasons, they progressed ahead of the league stage just thrice and are yet to reach the final. Their last play-off appearance came way back in 2012. Since then, they have not managed to finish above sixth. Hopes were high when they assembled a strong squad last year.

After retaining Chris Morris, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, they bought some big names. The likes of Gautam Gambhir, Glenn Maxwell, Colin Munro, Trent Boult, Prithvi Shaw, Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Shami made it to the squad. The franchise also roped in legendary Ricky Ponting to coach the side. However, in the end nothing made the difference to their fortunes. Despite having two-time IPL winning skipper Gambhir at helm, they managed just one win in first six games. Gambhir then stepped down as Iyer took the captaincy.
But the team continued to struggled. In the end, they finished at the bottom after managing just five wins in 14 games.
And ahead of another brand new season, Delhi Daredevils are looking set to make some big changes in the team. According to Mumbai Mirror, they have decided to release Gambhir, Maxwell, Morris and Jason Roy.

Maxwell was a big disappointment with the bat. In 12 games, he managed just 169 runs without a fifty. On the other hand, Roy played just one match-winning knock, scoring 91* against Mumbai Indians. He played just five games, scoring 120 runs. Morris was ruled out of the tournament with a back injury. The allrounder could play just four games for Delhi Daredevils.
Meanwhile, all franchises are required to submit their list of retentions before the November 15 deadline. The IPL auction for the upcoming season will take place in December.
