Delhi Ranji Trophy team is all set to follow the footsteps of the Indian cricket team, as in the latest news, it has been learnt that the state association has asked its players to maintain the desired fitness level, with a message that no unfit player will be given a place in the side.

It is presently the norm of the Indian cricket team, where few of the players have been dropped due to fitness issues and the Delhi side is all set to follow the same procedure, in the quest to supply fit players to the national side. A conditioning camp will be organised by DDCA ahead of the start of the season to check the fitness level and ensure that the players are fully fit.

With Virat Kohli also the part of the Delhi preliminary Ranji Trophy squad for the upcoming season. The step taken by the state board is not surprising, as it the Indian skipper himself who has put fitness at the top most priority in the Indian team. He started a rigorous fitness regime in 2015 and till now, it the fittest Indian player in the national side. He has got the backing from coach Ravi Shastri and chief selector, MSK Prasad as well.

In short, the players who are fit enough will only be selected in the team, whether it is Delhi side or the Indian national team.

“The Cricket Affairs Committee has decided everything on time and we have ample time to begin the preparations focussing on fitness. Unlike last year, where the team suffered due to lack of preparation and everything got finalised almost a week before, it is a proactive step to better the things in DDCA. After the physical fitness camp, the pruned list will get to attend the camp on skill training,” a source told The Hindustan Times.

Players like Ishant Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Navdeep Saini are expected to miss the conditioning camp, as they are part of the Duleep Trophy squads and will play for their respective sides in the first-class tournament.

Delhi will kick off the domestic season with Ranji Trophy, which starts in the first week of October.
