Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was at the launch of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Premier League (TNPL), on Saturday at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, has lauded the efforts of the die-hard fans, as the dynamic athlete further revealed they have played a significant role off-the-field while throwing unconditional support for the Men in Yellow, since the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. “CSK has the biggest fan following. In the last two years, we were not there but the way the fans supported us, it was like they were waiting for CSK to come back,” Dhoni was quoted as saying by TNPL’s digital medium.

The prolific Ranchi-born wicket-keeper Dhoni has expressed the delight while taking about the prospective return of the franchise, for the next edition of the IPL, which is expected to witness massive turn out, as Dhoni’s side is making a comeback after being defunct for two years.

“A lot of fans are waiting for the team to come and play at Chepauk,” Dhoni maintained.

The successful skipper in the domestic Twenty20 league has led Men in Yellow to two IPL trophies and Champions League titles, respectively while playing a significant role with the bat and behind the stumps for all these years.

The fan-favourite and star-studded Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings will be back in action along with another outfit Rajasthan Royals in the eleventh edition of the widely acclaimed league, following the suspension owing to the fixing saga and betting case in 2013.

It’s interesting to mention that thousands of Super Kings fans thronged to the ground while waving the flags and chanting the slogans of the local IPL outfit, before the start of the TNPL’s second edition.

As the Super King’s side is scheduled to feature in 2018 IPL edition, the 37-year-old Dhoni revealed he has returned to the ground after two years and is expecting a new beginning.

“This is the first time I am coming back to the ground after two years, so I think it will be pretty interesting,” Dhoni remarked.

The hard-hitting sensation Dhoni, who was donning Super Kings’ jersey, enthralled the crowd while smashed three towering sixes, in the longest six-hitting competition at Chepauk, as former Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden also swung his willow while facing the bowling machine at the non-strikers end in the friendly three-ball competition.

“We have seen the ups and downs, but what is remarkable has been the support of the fans over here. They love their cricket, irrespective of which team is playing or who has scored runs,” Dhoni told the TNPL, before the start of the tournament opener between Dindigul Dragons and Albert Tuti Patriots.

Dhoni has been the part of Rising Pune Supergiant as a skipper in 2016 and then as a player in 2017, as Steven Smith-led side were the runners-up of the tenth edition after losing out against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians in the final by just one run.

Having the vast amount of experience in the domestic cash-rich league, Dhoni has featured in 159 matches, as he scored 3,561 runs at an average of 37.88. He also claimed 76 catches and has 30 dismissals to his name behind the stumps.
