Denesh Ramdin, Dwayne Smith, Lendl Simmons among WIPA/WICB Award winners   

The West Indian cricket is known for it brand of cricket which has a tinge of originality. The players play with a unique confidence and seem to have fun every time they come onto the pitch. The talent in the cricketers of the nation is also notable. The West Indies Cricket Board makes sure that they recognize the contribution by various players with awards for outstanding performance. They have recently announced the list of winners in all categories for the year 2013-2014. These awards are decided by the WICB along with the help of the West Indies Players Association.

Westindiescricket.com has reported that a host of players who have played for the West Indies national team along with some uncapped players bagged these awards. A lot of popular international stars were also recognized for their support to the game. Along with present players and the awards for their performance, some cricket legends of West Indian Cricket were also presented an award. List of all the award winners in various categories:

 

REGIONAL UNDER-19 TEAM OF THE YEAR: Guyana

UNDER-19 PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Shimron Hetmyer (Guyana)

OUTSTANDING PERFORMER WIPA IN THE COMMUNITY: Ronnie Goddard

REGIONAL 4-DAY TEAM OF THE YEAR: Barbados

REGIONAL LIMITED-OVERS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Dwayne Smith (Barbados)

REGIONAL 4-DAY PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Shacaya Thomas (Combined Campuses & Colleges)

REGIONAL TWENTY20 PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Lendl Simmons (Trinidad & Tobago)

ONE-DAY INTERNATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Denesh Ramdin

TEST PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kraigg Brathwaite

TWENTY20 INTERNATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Samuel Badree

EMERGING PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jermaine Blackwood

WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Stafanie Taylor

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Sulieman Benn

WICB LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Chetram Singh, former President of the Guyana Cricket Board and WICB director

WIPA LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Renford Pinnock, former Jamaica wicketkeeper/batsman

Along with those on the list, cricketing legends who represented West Indies were also prevented awards. Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Wes Hall, Sir Andy Roberts, Sir Richie Richardson and Sir Curtly Ambrose were the legends who received the awards. This initiative by the WICB and the WIPA will encourage the young generation of cricketers and will help the growth of West Indian cricket.
