Deodhar Trophy 2017/17: Dinesh Karthik Scores Ton As Tamil Nadu Close In At 303
Dinesh Karthik emulated his performance of the Vijay Hazare Trophy final and scored a century in the decider of Deodhar Trophy to sail his team to a score of 303. Tamil Nadu lost three early wickets at a score of 39 and this was the time when Dinesh Karthik came to the fore and put a break on the fall of wickets.
He shared 136 runs for the fourth wicket with N Jagadeesan to first put his team in a stable position. Jagadeesan was dismissed when wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel caught him off Chama Milind. But Karthik continued to score runs as a 66 runs partnership with skipper Vijay Shankar followed.
Axar Patel got Karthik out caught by substitute fielder Shreevats Goswami. He played an innings of 126, not to just rescue his team from a troublesome situation but also to lead a strong base of a score of 303. Never in the innings, he tried to control himself as he played his strokes throughout, which was evident by the fact that his innings of 128 came in just 91 deliveries comprising of 14 fours and three sixes.
For India B, Dhawal Kulkarni was the star with the ball as the Mumbaikar scalped a fifer and was the bowler to give three early jitters to Tamil Nadu. The only unbeaten team in the tournament till now have to continue their unbeaten streak and have to chase down this humungous total in order to get their hands on Deodhar Trophy.
Brief Score: Tamil Nadu 303/9 (Dinesh Karthik 126, N Jagadeesan 55; Dhawal Kulkarni 5-39, Harpreet Singh Bhatia 1-29) vs India B at Vizag.
