Young Indian all-rounder Riyan Parag revealed that he looks up to the prolific Indian batter Virat Kohli to improve his game rather than other batters in International Cricket. The 21-year-old has been performing exceedingly well for East Zone in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy 2023 scoring two hundreds for his team.

Riyan has been executing his role in the middle order to the best of his abilities. The Assam all-rounder is known for his finishing skills in white-ball cricket as he has the ability to take on high-quality bowlers at any time and his bowling skills and gun fielding ability could also prove to be handy for any side.

Speaking to the BCCI.tv, Riyan Parag said that he looks up to Virat Kohli for inspiration in the game despite a lot of good cricketers in the world and revealed that he relates a lot with the former Indian skipper and added that he gets a lot of input from him to improve his game.

“It’s always been Virat Kohli, I don’t look up to any other batsman although there are a lot of great batters in our generation. I just relate a lot to Virat Kohli and I have spoken to him, I speak with him often. He has just got a lot of input that I actually like and I can relate to that person. I like it when he says something, I understand it and he makes me understand it as well,” Riyan Parag said.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli led the team from the front in batting over the last decade or so producing some winning performances for the side in all three formats of the game. The 34-year-old has inspired many youngsters in the country to take up the sport to perform for the country at the highest level.

Riyan Parag credited the Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for valuable tips and for helping him on his bowling and reckons that the Indian veteran has advised him few technical changes in his carrom ball as it helped him instantly to improve his game plan going into the big matches.

“Even before the previous game, I was talking to him about the carrom ball… I was telling him I wasn’t getting pace, I wasn’t getting the amount of turn I wanted with the carrom ball. So he suggested a few tweaks with the hand position – like the palm facing towards me releasing towards the batsman and I could see the difference instantly. Those minute details have helped me tremendously,” Riyan Parag added.

The form of the youngster will be crucial for East Zone in the Deodhar Trophy 2023 final against the South Zone as he has the ability to contribute to the team’s success with both bat and ball.
