Dhawal Kulkarni called up as a replacement for Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Mumbai pacer Dhawal Kulkarni has been called up as a replacement for Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the reminder of the test series against Australia. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is out for the first three tests due to a ankle injury and the team management is not willing to risk him ahead of the World Cup. Kulkarni is all set to leave for Australia at the earliest.
Bhuvneshwar will remain in Australia and will return to the squad once he is fit. A BCCI release said “Bhuvneshwar Kumar will rejoin the Indian team, for the Test series in Australia, as soon as he recovers and is declared fit. BCCI also decided that it would be better for his recovery if he was monitored by the team’s physiotherapists in Australia, instead of returning home for his rehabilitation.”
Kulkarni, who played for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir has been chosen ahead of Pankaj Singh, Vinay Kumar and Ishwar Pandey. He was not in included in the Mumbai team for its next two matches against Railways and Uttar Pradesh. He was a part of Indian ODI side that defeated Sri Lanka 5-0 last month. Bhuvneshwar finished as India’s highest wicket-taker during the five-Test series in England earlier this year with 19 wickets.
