Veteran batsman Dinesh Karthik, on Tuesday (February 7), interacted with his fans and followers on social media. It was a question-answer session on Twitter where the fans asked Dinesh Karthik the questions and he answered them.
The fans asked the wicketkeeper-batsman several questioned related to cricket and his personal life. And one of the questions was about his poor performance against New Zealand during the 2019 World Cup in England.
India had suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the Black Caps. The Kane Williamson-led side had stunned their fancied hosts by 18 runs to set-up a clash with eventual winners England in the World Cup final.
Batting first, New Zealand had posted 239 for 8 in the match that was decided on the reserve day due to rain. In response to New Zealand’s total, India were off to a disastrous start as New Zealand pacers ran riot.
India’s top-order failed completely as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored one run each to leave the team reeling at 5 for 3. Dinesh Karthik could not have asked for a tougher situation before coming out to bat.
There were hopes that the senior batsman would make the most of his experience and bail India out of trouble. However, it was not an easy outing for him. Dinesh Karthik struggled right from the word go. It took him 21 balls to open his account.
He eventually departed after scoring just 6 runs off 25 balls. Karthik’s dismissal only made things worse for Team India as they found themselves 4 down for just 24 runs after 10 overs.
