The two-time IPL winner Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain Dinesh Karthik has opined that he is sharing a good bond with every player, clearing the air over his relationship between Andre Russell. He also added that the best thing in his career has happened is captaining KKR.
The star stud franchise KKR has two times lifted the trophy in 2012 and 2014 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. The franchise has four times reached the play-offs, last being in 2018 when Dinesh Karthik was handed over the captaincy replacing Gambhir.
The wicket-keeper batsman before joining KKR played for MI, KXIP, DC and RCB. He was bought for a whopping Rs 7.4 crore by KKR.
Dinesh Karthik hopeful for KKR’s win:
Dinesh Karthik hoped that the team-work will soon translate into results in IPL 2020. He was a bit disappointed with the results in last year’s edition because the team could not qualify even for playoffs.
“It’s one of the best things to have happened in my cricket career, to be the captain of KKR. I think it came at a time when I felt it was the right time. The first year went great, the second year – when it came to results – it wasn’t as good as we wanted because we couldn’t qualify (for the playoffs), but overall, the journey has been terrific.
“The boys have responded well to me, and it should translate into results soon,” Karthik told sports broadcaster Radhakrishnan Sreenivasan in his YouTube chat show – The RK Show.
KKR Skipper on the relation with Andre Russell:
In 2019, all-rounder Andre Russell had complained about “bad decisions” made by the team and blamed an unhealthy team atmosphere for their poor results. His revelations have raised questions on Dinesh Karthik’s captaincy.
However, Karthik said he has resolved the dispute, stating that West Indian all-rounder was little apologetic for his statement.
“To be fair, he’s one of those guys who wears his heart on his sleeve. We had a conversation over it. We discussed it out. He wasn’t happy that the team wasn’t winning, that is the bottomline. Whatever he said, I completely respected it, ” he said.
“He was a little apologetic as well. At the end of the day, I have a great relationship with him. If I didn’t have a great relationship with him, it could have spiralled into something nasty,” the captain said.
Andre Russell is the vital cog for KKR since he joined them in 2014. He has been the one-man army for the team on several occasions. So far, he has played 64 IPL matches and scored 1400 runs and picked 55 wickets
