The tussle that had begun between the Supreme Court and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) when the former had instructed the board to implement the Lodha reforms which are still causing problems for some, according to reports.
Ever since the apex court had ordered the BCCI and its member associations to implement the Lodha panel recommendations, there have been issues cropping up, as the boards have shown reluctance in complying with the court’s order. As a result, the Supreme Court had instructed the BCCI to not provide the state associations with any fund until they accept Lodha Committee’s recommendations. And now it is taking a toll on the coaches and domestic staff in domestic cricket.
According to a report in The Times of India, the coaches along with the other staff members have not been given their dues for the last six months by their respective state associations. Some prominent personalities who are waiting for their salaries from the past six months are former India spinner and current Assam coach Sunil Joshi, former India pacer and current Hyderabad coach Bharat Arun, and former Delhi batsman and current coach KP Bhaskar.
“Till the time it implements the Lodha reforms, my state associations has been advised to not release any funds. As a result of this, my association is telling me that the board hasn’t released the money due to it, so we’re stuck when it comes to paying it. I humbly request to the BCCI and the COA to intervene in across India and ensure that all the state-level coaches and support staff to get our dues cleared, which have been stuck for the last six months,” a domestic coach was quoted as saying by the news outlet.
Under-16 players, coaches and support staff yet to receive their daily allowances:
The senior coaches and the support staffs are not the only ones who are facing problems, as according to a report in The Indian Express, around 125 boys, 45 coaches and support staff have not received their daily allowance of Rs 1500—in the ongoing zonal cricket camp conducted by the National Cricket Academy for under-16 cricketers. The camps are being conducted at Mumbai, Alur (Kerala), Ranchi, Chandigarh and Nagpur.
