Door Not Closed On Yuvraj, Raina: Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri, the Head Coach of Indian cricket team, has said that anyone who performs well and is following the parameters is eligible for selection in Indian cricket team. Further, he went onto say that the door is not closed on Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina as well,

“Any player is eligible for selection if they perform well on the following parameters – fitness, current form, and fielding. Fielding is very important if you want to win consistently,” Shastri told India TV.

“I am not involved in selection. The door is not closed on Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. Any player who performs well on these parameters is eligible for selection,” he added.

Both Yuvraj and Raina have recently drawn a lot of attention due to regular ignorance by the selectors.

First talking of Yuvraj, he was the part of the Indian cricket team for the ICC Champions Trophy and was retained for the limited over series against West Indies as well but soon, he got dropped from the side. Instead of calling him as being dropped, MSK Prasad said that he was rested.

A rested Yuvraj couldn’t make a comeback for the first three ODIs against Australia, which raised few questions over MSK Prasad. Further, he wasn’t even selected for any of Duleep Trophy squads and was neglected for the one off practice game against Australia as well, which indicated that he has been dropped from the side and is not in the scheme of things.

Coming to Raina, he played his last ODI in 2015 against South Africa in Mumbai. From then, he has made few comebacks in the side but hasn’t played an ODI. Though he was given place in playing XI against England in three T20Is but wasn’t given a central contract by BCCI for 2017/18 season, which raised few questions. There is still a chance of him being given an opportunity for T20I series against Australia, but as of now, there seems to be no place for him in ODIs.

Amdist, all the talks though, Shastri has cleared that the doors are not yet closed on these two and performance in upcoming seasons can see both of them coming back in the Indian team. Though along with performance, they have to keep a particular check on their fitness as well as it is one of the critical parameters to get a place in the Indian team.
