Rahul Dravid has ignited a massive controversy by declining the BCCI’s offer to be part of a new advisory board. The trio of Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman were appointed in an advisory board by the BCCI and Secretary Anurag Thakur had confirmed that.
However, Indian fans were taken aback when Rahul Dravid’s name was missing from the board. It came as a shock to many that Dravid, who had a good relationship with everyone wasn’t a part of the panel.
As per the reports emerging in, the premier reason behind Dravid’s absence has been Ganguly’s presence. As per sources, Dravid wasn’t too comfortable working along with Ganguly.
A senior BCCI official spoke on this matter and said, “It seems he (Dravid) isn’t comfortable working with Sourav. That’s why his name isn’t on the list. A cricketer like him wouldn’t want to be involved in a battle of egos,” he said.
Another factor behind Dravid’s absence could be that he is already the mentor of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Thus Dravid would not want to be involved in any conflict of interest by becoming a part of the BCCI.
Rewinding back the years, it can be remembered that Ganguly and Dravid didn’t share the best relationship. During Sachin Tendulkar’s book launch last year, Ganguly admitted that Dravid knew Greg Chappell’s plot to eliminate Ganguly from the team and make Tendulkar the captain. Dravid however, felt otherwise back then.
Dravid was quoted saying during Tendulkar’s book launch to the media “I haven’t really read the excerpts of that book. Also I am not privy to any private conversation between two individuals. I have not heard about this before and I have no idea what happened and I would not want to make any comment.”
