As BCCI President Anurag Thakur announced the name of Anil Kumble as the coach of Indian national cricket team, he made it clear that Rahul Dravid was BCCI’s first choice for the lucrative post. But Dravid is a man of genius mind. When BCCI advertised for the Indian coaching post-Thakur himself called Dravid and told that BCCI wants him to be Indian national team coach. But Dravid like a wise man said he would continue his work with the junior team.
Thakur revealed the part of their conversation. In an interview to NDTV, Thakur said, “I requested Rahul Dravid to coach the Indian team. He didn’t say no, but said that he will work for the junior team.”
Dravid, who helped the Indian U-19 boys to qualify for the 2016 U-19 World Cup and also coached Rajasthan Royals and now is working with Delhi Daredevils, wants to make the future star of Indian cricket.
Thakur praised Dravid’s intent as the later wants to work with the young boys. “That is the good thing about Dravid. He didn’t go for the senior team post, big money and all. He wanted to work for the junior cricketers and not the senior team,” he said.
After 15 days long process BCCI finally selected Anil Kumble as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team for a period of one year. Kumble will join India from the West Indies tour in the next month.
