Well, what an immaculate prediction it proved to be. This could have been possibly adjudged correctly only by a Champion batsman and a legendary batsman like Rahul Dravid. Yes, much before the time when Shikhar Dhawan regained his splendid batting form back against South Africa, Rahul Dravid had not given much of the weightage to Shikhar Dhawan’s lack of form in the Test series against Australia.
Rather he had stuck his neck out saying “playing different opposition” could see out of form Shikar Dhawan strike big in the ICC World Cup.
Just three weeks ago, answering a question, Rahul Dravid had said, “By the business end of the tournament, if he (Dhawan) is in form, he will be your most valuable player. Maybe playing a different kind of opposition, he will get back into form”.
It is pertinent to add that in most of the write-ups, Dhawan was severely criticized for his repeated failures. He was quoted as totally out of form as he could score only— 25, 9, 24, 81, 28, 0, thereafter he was dismissed for 2, 1, 8, 38 in the tri-series featuring Australia and England.
However, contrary to the below par expectations of most of the fans, Dhawan has regained his form in the World Cup, thus proving Dravid’s prediction right.
It is really heartening to see the comeback of Dhawan true to the predictions made by cool and contented Rahul Dravid the wall. Hope Dhawan will continue to delight us with many more such scintillating innings.
