Duleep Trophy Match 2: India Red V India Blue Review: Indrajith Smashes Century, Rajpoot Scalps 3
The 2nd match of the ongoing Duleep Trophy got underway yesterday between India Red and India Blue, and after the end of the opening day’s play at the Green Park in Kanpur, India Red have posted a decent 291 on the board with a solitary wicket in hand. Barring a brilliant century from Baba Indrajith, no other batsmen could convert their starts into big ones, and that was the main reason behind India Red not going to post a daunting total.
The opening duo of Priyank Panchal and Sudip Chatterjee started off proceedings and was looking in good touch. Both played some good shots and stitched together a half-century partnership. But both the batsmen feel at quick succession which reduced India Red to 74/2. While Panchal made 36, Chatterjee was dismissed on 34.
India Red lost their 3rd wicket when Ankit Rajpoot removed Gahlaut Rahul Singh with an impressive delivery. Bharghav Bhatt bagged the most prized wicket of Dinesh Karthik. Wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals, but it was Baba Indrajith who held the fort by executing some delightful shots to perfection.
Despite losing his partners one after the other, Indrajith kept his composure and struck some beautiful shots to keep India Red in the game. Despite solid batting by Indrajith, India Red was reduced to 205/9 in the 66th over, but an unbeaten 10th wicket partnership ensured that India Red finished the opening day’s play with still a wicket in hand.
Vijay Gohil- the No.11 gave him ample support which also helped Indrajith reach his well deserved century. It was a breathtaking innings of 121 of 181 deliveries which were laced with 12 fours and a couple of hits over the fence. Gohil remained unbeaten on 22 with four boundaries and will look to give Indrajith a little more support on Day 2 morning to ensure India Red get past the 300 320 mark.
For India Blue Ankit Rajpoot was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/44 while Jaydev Unadkat returned with 2/64. Bharghav Bhatt, Akshay Wakhare, captain Suresh Raina and Manoj Tiwary all bagged a wicket each.
