Mumbai Indians’ South African batsman Tristan Stubbs is all set to enjoy his maiden stint in the county circuit this year after striking a deal with Durham. The right-handed batsman will be plying his trade for the club in the 2023 T20 Blast.
Durham confirmed the news of securing the highly-rated batsman’s services on Tuesday (February 22). Tristan Stubbs is seen as the next big thing in South African country and has already made the world take note of him due to his batting abilities.
The right-handed batsman earned recognition when Mumbai Indians signed him up last year as an injury replacement before IPL 2022. The hard-hitting middle-order batsman had replaced England pacer Tymal Mills in the Mumbai squad.
Later, he was picked up by Manchester originals in the Hundred. Last year, he made his debut in international cricket too and marked his arrival with a stunning knock of 72 off just 28 balls against England in his first-ever game. So far, he has played 13 T20Is and has maintained a strike-rate of almost 165.
Tristan Stubbs excited to play for Durham:
Speaking after signing the deal, Tristan Stubbs said that he is excited to represent Durham in the 2023 T20 Blast. Stubbs pointed out his experience of playing in England last year and said that he is looking forward to a successful English summer.
“I’m really excited to join Durham for the T20 Blast this summer,” Stubbs said. “I have spent some time with Brydon (Carse) during the winter and he’s only had good things to say about the club.
“I can’t wait to get over to Durham and meet up with my new teammates. Having played in England last summer I know how much the fans love their cricket so it should be a really fun and successful summer,” he added.
