Dwaine Pretorius, the uncapped all-rounder, has been named as the replacement of Dale Steyn for the remaining two Tests vs Australia. Pretourois made his ODI debut against Ireland at Benoni this year. There, he bowled a paltry of 5 overs, giving away just 19 runs adding a wicket to his name. He played two more ODIs in the series against Australia, bowling 13 overs in for 75 runs with just one wicket. His short career has not been a true reflection of his talent till now and he needs a longer run to prove himself.
Pretorius, who has played a total of 36 first-class games till now, made his debut in 2011. He holds a great domestic record as he has scored a total of 1963 runs at an impressive average of 43.62, along with that, he has also has scalped 115 wickets. Surely, he is coming in the squad more as an all-rounder rather just a replacement for Dale Steyn, who is set to be sidelined for a period of six months with a shoulder injury and will require another surgery to heal the issue.
There are even chances of Pretorius making his debut in case Morne Morkel is not fit for the selection in the second Test match as well. His selection will deepen the batting line-up of the South African team, who collapsed in the first innings of Perth Test.
Despite the absence of Dale Steyn, South African bowlers successfully rattled the Australian batting line-up, winning the game by a margin of 177 runs in the end. They now lead the three-Test series by 1-0.
