Dwayne Bravo, who hails from West Indies and is currently playing for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, has given his franchise in IPL Chennai Super Kings many victories as an all-rounder mostly without assistance and is one of the team’s best death bowler according to his CSK skipper MS Dhoni.
The 36-year-old all-rounder is famous for his celebrations after getting a wicket. He has played for Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions and Chennai Super Kings in IPL featuring in 134 matches and has scored 1483 runs averaging a modest 23.17 and picked up 147 wickets averaging 24.61.
Dwayne Bravo: MS Dhoni Keeps His Cool In Crunch Situations
Dwayne Bravo credits MS Dhoni as the best finisher of T20 cricket and after the CSK captain announced his international retirement last week on Independence Day, the West Indian cricketer recalled a match against India in Florida in 2016 when he successfully defended six runs and prevented the Jharkhand batsman from winning a T20I in the last over.
“I only had to defend six runs in that over and I was bowling to the best finisher in the game. Dhoni is a very difficult opponent to bowl to, so it was a great achievement for me to stop him from getting those runs…I wish I could have bowled more to him in international cricket because I always like bowling to the best,” Bravo told TOI on the sidelines of a promotional event for a mobile gaming SBOTOP.
The West Indian feels MS Dhoni is still among the best in world cricket but he respects his decision to quit international cricket on Independence Day.
“As cricket lovers we would have loved to see him play for as long as possible but the reality is we have to stop some time. But there’s still the IPL and he is very much there,” Bravo added.
He added that MS Dhoni never overreacted intense situations besides boosting confidence to his teammates.
“As a player he used to absorb so much pressure and never panicked…Dhoni always gives players the belief and confidence which is the hallmark of any great captain,” Bravo said.
MS Dhoni who debuted in 2004 finally hangs his boots but will continue to play for CSK, a team which he had captained since the inaugural year 2008. He is the only captain to win all three ICC trophies -2007 T20I World Cup, ODI World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013. Besides he has scored more than 10,000 runs in ODI and has given CSK three IPL trophies. The 39-year-old MS Dhoni has scored 4432 runs in 190 IPL matches averaging 42.21 which is exemplary.
Dwayne Bravo: No Team Favourites To Win IPL
Dwayne Bravo will play in the upcoming IPL in UAE after his commitments in CPL are over, but believes that no franchise is clear favourites to win IPL as every team has players who can adapt in difficult conditions.
“Every team has quality players and all know how to adapt. So I don’t think the conditions will favour any one team but CSK, of course, is a side which knows how to do well in any condition,” the star allrounder said.
The West Indian all-rounder feels his compatriots and all-rounders Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell will be extremely difficult to bowl against because they can clear the boundaries at ease, besides believing it will be a challenge for bowlers to adapt to the saliva ban in the desert heat to keep the ball ready for some swing.
“Yes, we have to address it and find different ways to shine the ball,” Bravo said, indicating that he is up for the challenge.
