Dwayne Smith Retires From International Cricket 1

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith has brought down curtains on his international career. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, the 33-year old Islamabad United player took the decision ahead of the second Qualifying Final against Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).

He marked his arrival at the international stage with a run-a-ball unbeaten 105 on his Test debut against South Africa at Cape Town in January 2004. However, he failed to make it big in the longest format of the game as he played only nine more Tests, scoring 320 runs overall. His last Test appearance for West Indies came way back in March 2006, against New Zealand in Napier.

His limited-overs career, however, speaks a different story altogether. An aggressive batsman who had the ability to provide crucial breakthroughs, Smith played 105 One-Day Internationals, scoring 1560 runs at an average of 18.57. He also scored eight half-centuries. In bowling, he took 61 wickets with career-best figures of 5/45.

The ace all-rounder was part of three World Twenty20 squads for the West Indies- 2007, 2012 and 2014. He played only one game in West Indies’ successful 2012 campaign but was a vital part of the team in the next edition, playing 5 matches as an opener and scoring 125 runs. Overall, he played in 33 Twenty20 Internationals and scored 582 runs with a highest score of 72 and three half-centuries.

A popular figure in the world of T20 leagues, Smith played for Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also played in the Caribbean Premier League, the Bangladesh Premier League, the PSL and the NatWest Blast in England.
