ToggleEbadot Hossain of Bangladesh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 tournament which will be played in India from October 5 onwards, due to an ankle injury he suffered recently.
Ebadot had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan. The 29-year-old pacer, who has represented Bangladesh in 12 ODIs since his 50-over debut last year, was replaced by Tanzim Sakib for the Asia Cup.
“He (Ebadot) will not be available for us in the World Cup. It’s a big blow for us as he will require operation for his knee. Following the operation he will certainly take some time for rehabilitation purpose, at least three to four months, so we cannot consider him for World Cup,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old left for London early in the morning last Monday after suffering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, sustained during last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan.
Ebadot Hossain Flies To The UK To Undergo Surgery On His Ankle
Prior to this, it was known that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would decide whether to have the player undergo a conservative course of therapy or an operation based on the results of his initial consultation with UK medical professionals.
The player won’t be available for the ODI World Cup in India in October-November, Debashish further stated. His recovery could take at least six months.

“Yes, Ebadot is undergoing an operation. We will work out a rehabilitation plan for him after the operation. There is pretty much nothing we can do now that he had to go for an operation. As you know, it takes some time to recover,” confirmed the BCB chief physician Dr. Debashish Chowdhury to The Daily Star today.
The absence of Ebadot absence changes the dynamics of the bowling attack. He used to bowl the middle overs, allowing Taskin Ahmed to operate with the new ball. It was Ebadot’s pace that helped him succeed in the middle overs and it remains to be seen how Taskin fits in that role.
