Former New Zealand pace sensation Shane Bond on Wednesday has been confirmed as the England bowling consultant for the upcoming traditional Ashes 2017-18 series in Australia.

In a bid to face Steven Smith’s Australia, after announcing the 17-member squad, the England Cricket Board (ECB), also revealed Bond as its short-term bowling coach – to boost the morale of the players.

So much so, there is much to be planned against hosts battling line-up while extracting a lot with the use of Kookaburra ball.

According to a report in Stuff, Bond will be donning Three Lions kit jersey, as England availed his services for the much-anticipated Test fixtures scheduled in Brisbane from November 23.

“Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has been appointed fast bowling consultant and will be part of the England management team up to the end of second test in Australia,” ECB said in a statement.

The impressive Bond, who played 18 Tests for New Zealand to pick 87 wickets at an impressive bowling average of 22.09, will assist England in only two Tests scheduled in Brisbane and Adelaide.

The second Test is slated to be played under lights owing to the pink ball between December 2 and six respectively.

Bond, whose term as a chief coach for New Zealand A will expire in October, this year, was on the top priority list of Bayliss after Caribbean former fast bowler Ottis Gibson joined as the head coach for South Africa.

Bond is bound to work under England head coach Trevor Bayliss, as newly-appointed skipper is expected to face an acid test.

“I’ve got my sights on a head coaching role, but it’s how it all lines up with everything else in your life,” Bond maintained.

Owing to the backroom, Bond is looking forward to making most of his experience while imparting his knowledge to English bowlers to break down the hosts’ much-talked batting order on the bouncy surfaces.

The 42-year-old Christchurch-born speed gun Bond has expressed his satisfaction with his fresh role and is eventually looking forward to utilizing his experience against the arch-rivals while backing experienced campaigners; James Anderson and Stuart Broad with the ball.

“Every opportunity you’ve got to look at and weigh up what’s best for the important people around you,” Bond asserted.

One of the premium fast bowlers that Black Caps produced has already signed a contract with the professional Twenty20 Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Brisbane Head, as the fresh edition is slated to start on December 19.

Bond, who further expressed to serve in the widely-acclaimed Indian Premier League (IPL) in his best possible way in next edition, after working hard with bowling department of defending champions Mumbai Indians.

“I’d love to be involved with the IPL. I’ve got great opportunities with Brisbane and the IPL and I really enjoy them,” Bond concluded.

In 2015 at home, England won the Ashes title by 3-2 under the leadership of Alastair Cook, who would be playing as a batsman only, as Root would be eyeing to defend the coveted Urn.

On the other front, ODI skipper Paul Collingwood has been roped in as the batting mentor in Tests followed by ODIs against Australia.
