The former English cricketer, David Lloyd believes that the England Cricket Board needs to compromise it’s fixtures and should allow it’s players to participate in the Indian Premier League. And that would benefit the English players to excel in the T20 format.
Lloyd said that their biggest problem is that the team is busy playing elsewhere while the IPL is going on. Also, the tournament is in full flow and the English team is busy playing test series against the West Indies.
Lloyd feels that they need to find a solution to this particular situation. He said that if ECB can afford to have a five week window for the IPL, then it would benefit the English players as they would gather valuable experiences of playing in subcontinental soils.
He also said that for making a five week window, their domestic season needs to be shortened and that is something not going to happen.
Lloyd further added that ECB must work out for a solution and should even compromise if needed.
He said that they have to find a compromise. He added that ECB is looking to revamp the structure in 2016. And also, there should be a way made by the governing bodies so that players are benefitted from it.
Lloyd said that T20 is a fantastic format. They have not yet got there in the United Kingdom. They do play T20 cricket but is not much concentrated into a fine package. It gets dragged to three months and thus loses it’s impact.
The 68-year old former cricketer also added of the fact that the English players need to be good enough to play in IPL as the standards in the tournament are pretty much high.
He said that players must be good enough to fall under the eyes of some franchise. He said that the English players are not well grasped to the shortest format of the game.
