England and Wales Cricket Board said, on Saturday, that the board is looking to take government advice on the upcoming tour to Bangladesh after the terrorist attacks that took place in Dhaka on Friday which saw as many as 20 foreigners dead.
The English team is set to tour Bangladesh on September 30 as per the proposed plan but with the recent turn of events the tour might very well get cancelled due to security reasons.
The safety and security of our players and management is always of paramount importance to ECB and this applies to all teams representing England on overseas tours,” an ECB spokesperson said. “We will continue to monitor and assess the situation in Bangladesh over the coming weeks and months and will undertake a thoroughgoing and robust pre-tour inspection of planned security arrangements for the England team.
“We will also continue to work closely with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and should our Director of Security, Reg Dickason, or the FCO, advise that the environment is not acceptably safe or the right measures not in place, we would take the appropriate steps.”
Bangladesh who have not played much of international cricket only has England series next in their schedule to fill the eight months of a cricket-less year. The recent security concerns will only hamper the nations to tour Bangladesh in the upcoming months.
One of the fastest growing cricketing nations, Bangladesh took a huge blow with this attack as it would definitely affect the game which Pakistan has been facing since 2006. Despite the country having few security concerns in the past, this surely will have much more effect when other nations make a decision on their tours to Bangladesh in the coming months.
Another key concern would be that the hostage-takers separated locals from foreigners and killed 20 of them as they were slaughtered by sharpened weapons.
