The Enforcement Directorate is all set to probe the alleged fraud case involving Goa Cricket Association’s senior officials, who were earlier arrested by state police and are currently out on bail.

When contacted, senior ED official today said that they would be investigating the case as the offence has already been registered on June 6.

ED’s Economic Offences Cell of the local police had on June 15 arrested GCA President Chetan Desai, Secretary Vinod Phadke and Treasurer Akbar Mulla on the complaint of GCA life member Vilas Desai that they had allegedly encashed a cheque given by BCCI to GCA.

The trio is accused of money laundering of Rs 3.30 crore between 2006 and 2008.

GCA’s life members Vilas Desai, Hemant Angle and Prasad Fatarpekar have brought BCCI’s notice about the alleged financial fraud committed by the trio.

Fatarpekar along with Vilas Desai had filed a police complaint against the accused and demanded that the ED should inquire into the financial dealings of the cricketing body from 2007 onwards.

Fatarpekar revealed that they had approached the ED after BCCI constantly ignored  their communications exposing the misdeeds in the GCA.

“We have been writing to the BCCI since last one year highlighting the corruption by the trio, but our letters fell on their deaf ears,” he claimed.

On Friday last, a local court had granted bail to the three arrested persons, with the condition that they would stay away from GCA office for 15 days and report to the investigating officer for four days.

In a month the BCCI has to face the Supreme Court because the apex court will give a verdict on the Lodha Committee recommendations.

BCCI is fighting with the time to bring everything in control before going to the Supreme Court premises. BCCI’s unit Assam Cricket Association and Delhi District Cricket  Association didn’t give their balance sheet for five and one year years. BCCI understands that it will create a problem for them when they will face the Supreme Court as Lodha committees one of the recommendations was financial transparency.
