In a surprising turn of events, New Zealand Cricket (NZC), on Wednesday, confirmed that ace fast-bowler Trent Boult has been released from his central contract. The decision has all but made it clear that Boult will not be a very prominent member of New Zealand team in international cricket.
Boult had himself asked NZC to release him from the central contract so that he can spend time with his young family, while also making himself available for domestic leagues around the world. While confirming the decision of releasing Boult from the central contract, NZC stated that the left-arm pacer will now have a ‘significantly reduced role’ with the Blackcaps.
“The move means Boult, who has taken 317 Test wickets, 169 at ODI level, and 62 in T20I cricket, will have a significantly reduced role with the BLACKCAPS during his final years in the game, while still being eligible for selection if and when available,” stated an official release issued by NZC.

Trent Boult also commented on the latest turn of events and insisted that he understands the implications of his decision. Boult admitted that the decision might affect his chances of selection.
“I still have a big desire to represent my country and feel I have the skills to deliver at the international level. However, I respect the fact that not having a national contract will affect my chances of selection,” Trent Boult said.
“Having said that, as a fast bowler I know I have a limited career span and I feel the time is right to move into this next phase,” he added.
Well, Boult is still eligible for selection in the New Zealand team but it won’t be surprising at all if NZC give priority to the contracted players. The star pacer’s international career looks as good as over at the moment.
