Ravichandran Ashwin led India to supremacy as his spell of 4-60 helped the visitors in holding England to 285-9 at the end of day’s play. Ashwin was able to get the better off England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes via a soft dismissal. In fact, this was the fifth time that the off-spinner was able to dismiss the southpaw batsman.

Interestingly, no other bowler has dismissed Ben Stokes more than Ravichandran Ashwin.

Meanwhile, Ashwin has bowled 228 balls against Ben Stokes of which 101 runs have been scored. Thus, Stokes averages a mere 20.20 while facing up against India’s talisman spinner. Furthermore, Ashwin balls per dismissal against Stokes is 45.60. Therefore, Ravichandran Ashwin has his wood on Ben Stokes.

Ravichandran Ashwin was able to show his worth in the Test side.

In fact, Ravichandran Ashwin was not only able to get the better of Ben Stokes but also he scalped three more wickets. Ashwin dismissed former England skipper Alastair Cook with a peach of a delivery, which was the ball of the day. This was the eighth time when Ashwin went on to bamboozle Cook.

India’s linchpin spinner was able to nip in the bud of dangerous Jos Buttler. The right-handed batsman who is in good form was trapped in front of the wickets when he had not even troubled the scorers.

Moreover, Ashwin was too good for Stuart Broad when he bowled a perfect in-swinger to the southpaw batsman. Therefore, Ashwin perfect outing on the first day of the long five-match series has helped India to put their noses in front.

Meanwhile, the tourists bounced back in the final session of the day in which they took six scalps by conceding 122 runs. Joe Root’s dismissal opened the floodgates and it was a one-way traffic after that.

Consequently, India will like to take the remaining one wicket as soon as possible. Subsequently, it would be up to the batsman to take India’s dominance forward.
