Indian southpaw batsman Gautam Gambhir believes an addition of 43 runs or more will give India a good score on the board. India ended Day 1 with 307 for the loss of six wickets.
India’s openers were able to give a good start as they put together a partnership of 60 runs. Furthermore, Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli were able to get an alliance of 159 runs. Thus, the Indian deputy and captain were able to put the visitors in the driving seat.
Gautam Gambhir gave credit to both the batsman to put India in a good position.
“Virat Kohli will be a very happy captain. Plus the partnership which he had with Ajinkya Rahane was very very crucial. Obviously getting that partnership of more than 100 runs and not losing a wicket in the 2nd session obviously credit must be given to both of them,” Gambhir said during his video interaction with the Times of India.
Thus, Gambhir believes that a score in excess of 350 will be a good total. Thus, Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin will play a key role in adding to the overnight score.
“So I feel anything above 350 will be a good total. It will at least give the bowlers something to bowl at,” Gambhir said.
Gautam Gambhir also picked his performers of the day. The Delhi based opener selected Rahane and Kohli as his best players.
“For me, the performer of the day was definitely Rahane and Kohli,” Gambhir stated.
There is no doubt the opening day was the best collective effort for the tourists. Rahane was able to show his class as he finally found his lost touch while Virat Kohli continues to produce the runs like a run-machine.
India will want their lower order to chip in more with the bat. Thus, Pant and Ashwin partnership is going to be imperative.
