ENG vs IND 2018: England Aims To Keep Ben Stokes in Contention for Second Test
England is aiming to keep Ben Stokes in contention for the second Test match which will take place at home of cricket, Lord’s. Thus, the hosts are not ruling out the option of playing their talisman all-rounder in the second Test match from August 9.
Ben Stokes needs to appear for his court trial in Bristol on 6th August. The talisman all-rounder will face the charge of affray following his Bristol brawl of last year. In fact, the case is scheduled to last five to seven days which puts Ben Stokes participation in jeopardy.

However, England’s think tank is keeping their doors open for Ben Stokes as the case can retreat later for any reason. Consequently, England team management has informed ESPN Cricinfo that they are open to welcome Ben Stokes if the court pushes the dates.
Meanwhile, the case can be adjourned for many reasons which include illness, the admission of new evidence or an alteration in the charge.
The hosts know what Ben Stokes brings to the table as an all-rounder. Therefore, they would like to play Stokes if he can be available for the second Test match.
On the other hand, Stokes could only score 21 runs on the first day of the opening Test match. The southpaw batsman was out of an innocuous delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin via a soft dismissal.
Meanwhile, England was able to put 285 for the loss of nine wickets at the end of Day’s 1 play. England skipper Joe Root scored the maximum 80 runs while Jonny Bairstow chipped in with a 70-run knock.
On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin was the chief destroyer of England’s batting line-up. The off-spinner scalped four wickets to put the hosts behind the eight ball. Furthermore, Mohammed Shami also chipped in with two wickets as he was the most impressive Indian fast bowler.
