Pakistan cricketer Fakhar Zaman expressed his high regards team India skipper Virat Kohli and admitted that he had learned a lot by watching him bat.
Meanwhile, Kohli has crawled back atop of the ICC Test Ranking for batsmen. Kohli guided India to bounce back in the five-match Test series with a 203-run win at Trent Bridge. Kohli scored 200 runs across two innings to take his tally to 440 runs with two Tests remaining.
Fakhar Zaman noted he has learned a lot from Kohli and always looks upto him as a batsman.
“There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is a world-class player who sets a fine example for all to follow with his hard work and his batting,” Zaman said Sky Sports. “I for one really enjoy watching Virat Kohli bat and I feel that I learn a lot by watching this master batsman at work,” he added.
The southpaw is currently in top-form scoring the first-ever double century for Pakistan. He also overtook Viv Richards record for the fastest to 1000 ODI runs, taking just 18 innings.
Fakhar Zaman didn’t expect to score double-century
Zaman didn’t think he will ever be able to breach the 200-run mark in an ODI inning. However, though of achieving that feat in the domestic cricket.
“To be honest, I never thought that I would achieve such a milestone in international cricket. Yes, while playing domestic cricket I did have the aim of making a double hundred in one-day games as I knew that not many local players had achieved this goal. I did come close to scoring 200 in domestic 50-over matches but the thought of doing the same in an international game simply did not cross my mind,” Fakhar Zaman noted.
However, he revealed that skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and coach Mickey Arthur insisted Zaman to go for the kill.
“My captain Sarfraz Ahmed and head coach Mickey Arthur would tell me that I had the ability to score a double hundred in ODIs, but I thought that they said it without much conviction and were just trying to build up my confidence,” Zaman concluded.
Virat Kohli-led India will take on Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup next month as UAE.
