Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat first.
Meanwhile, England skipper Joe Root won the toss and elected to bat. The hosts have started their innings on a cautious note, as they had lost just two wickets and had crossed the 100-run mark.
Early on, Ravichandran Ashwin was able to get the better off Alastair Cook. In fact, this was the eighth time when Ashwin dismissed the veteran England opener in the red-ball format. There is some turn on the track which would keep Ravichandran Ashwin interested at all times in the Test match.
On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane fluffed a catch while fielding in the slips. Thus, Rahane played his part in giving a second life to England opener, Keaton Jennings. However, Ajinkya Rahane is India’s best fielder in the slip position in the recent past.
Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma failed to hit the correct line and length. Mohammed Shami was the only Indian fast bowler who was right on the money with his line and length. Later, Shami had bowled Jennings post the lunch break.
Meanwhile, Moeen Ali and James Porter will like to make a comeback in the second Test match squad of England, starting August 9th.
