Former Indian wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer believes Virat Kohli can be greater than Sachin Tendulkar. In fact, Engineer went to say that Virat Kohli can be bigger than Sunil Gavaskar as well.
The former Indian gloveman feels there is an era of dominance for every batsman. Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been super consistent with the bat in all the three formats. Thus, Kohli has been instrumental in the success of the team.
Virat Kohli is leading from the front.
In fact, there is no denying the fact that Kohli has the potential to be the greatest of all time. He has scored runs everywhere in the globe.
“I see him (Kohli) going all the way. I see him (as) one of the greatest batsmen India has produced. In every generation, there is someone. There was a (Sachin) Tendulkar or a (Sunil) Gavaskar. And this is Kohli’s era. And he (Kohli) has all the penitential to be the greatest. He has got the potential to be greater than Sachin and Sunil,” Engineer told reporters here today.
“But let’s not call him now, let him get to that milestone, break those records and then we will call him that,” added Farokh Engineer.
Kohli has shown the potential to be the GOAT.
Virat Kohli didn’t have the best of the tour in 2014 as he scored a mere 134 runs. However, the transformation is gargantuan as he has amassed 440 runs in the three-Test matches. Kohli has scored two centuries and two fifties in the ongoing series.
“Look at Virat Kohli. He had a miserable tour of England last time he played there (in 2014). And his confidence was really low. But Virat is such a fighter and he said to himself – I am the finest batsman in the world and let me prove it. Not only on Indian or Caribbean wickets, I am going to get runs in England too,” said Engineer.
Farokh Engineer went on to add Virat Kohli has set higher standards in the team. Kohli has led from the front and has set a perfect example for everyone.
“And my word, he has batted so well. And he set a great standard for the team, (saying) ‘if I can do it, you all can do it,” added the Mumbai-based former cricketer.
India was able to bounce back stronger in the Trent Bridge Test match. Kohli has looked at the top of his game and has kept England’s pack leader James Anderson at bay.
“It has impressed me immensely because the way Virat has converted those unplayable balls into playable ones. The way our boys played at Trent Bridge (in the third Test), I am proud of them and Virat Kohli set a wonderful example there,” he signed off.
Virat Kohli is batting on another planet as he has looked at ease. The fourth Test match will take place at Ageas Bowl, Southampton from today.
