Former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara believes that Indian captain Virat Kohli can be India’s greatest of all time. Sangakkara said that they way Kohli is playing, he is all set to break quite a few records.
Virat Kohli was finally able to come up with goods in England as he scored a fine 149 in the first innings. Furthermore, Kohli continued in the same fashion as he is currently unbeaten on 43 in the second innings. Thus, India’s hopes of winning their first Test match at Edgbaston rests on their skipper’s shoulders.
Virat Kohli has proven his mettle.
“The way he is playing, Virat can well become the greatest ever Indian batsman,” Sangakkara told TOI.
“In terms of Sachin’s legacy both in terms of cricket and the way he has dealt with pressure, he is unique. But Virat is well on his way to match that. He is comfortably the best in the world of his generation and with time, he will mature even more. If he understands himself a bit better and keeps improving his game, he will break quite a few records,” Sangakkara said.
Virat Kohli has already broken some great records in the book. The former legendary Sri Lankan batsman went on to add that Kohli can definitely break more records depending on how much he plays.
“It’s up to him how long he plays and if he does for a while, a few serious records will be broken,” Sanga said.
There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is currently one of the best batsmen in the world. Consequently, he is delivering the goods consistently.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has scored almost 200 runs in the ongoing first Test match against England. He has been the lone warrior for the Indian team in the opening match.
India needs 84 more runs to win whereas England needs five more wickets. Thus, the match is expected to go down to the wire and Virat Kohli is going to hold the key.
