ToggleIndian head coach Ravi Shastri feels that Virat Kohli is at a different level mentally. Kohli didn’t have the best of 2014 tour when he scored a mere 134 runs. However, Shastri said that Kohli is a different player now.
There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is going to be the cynosure of all eyes, come the first Test match against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. In fact, Kohli was the lone warrior on the South African tour and the Indian skipper will want more support from other batters.
Kohli records speak for himself, says Shastri.
Shastri said that Virat Kohli is the best player in the game as his records speak for himself while speaking to ESPN Cricinfo.
“Look at his record. I don’t have to spell out what he has done in the last four years. When you perform in that fashion, you are mentally at a different level as well. You are waiting for whatever test comes your way. Yes, he might have had an ordinary series when he came here four years ago. But four years down the line he is the best player in the world. And he would like to get out there and show the British public why he is the best player in the world,” Shastri said.
He knows his game.
The former Indian all-rounder Shastri went on to add that Kohli knows his game. Shastri said that they try to keep things as simple as they can.
“He knows his game. It is just about re-emphasizing certain little things which you see and basically keeping things simple. Not creating things that don’t exist. That is one thing I believe in my coaching. I don’t try to fix something that is not broken. If he wants to try something different, we are always around to have a chat,” the head coach said.
Adding further, Ravi Shastri said that Kohli mode of dismissal against Essex could have avoided. The Indian head coach assured that the skipper will have thrice the focus for the first Test match.
“That happens. Probably in a Test match, his focus would be three times more. He would have been a lot more disappointed if he had got out in that fashion in a Test match because he had hardly put a foot wrong. In that entire innings, when the ball was doing quite a bit, he was beaten just three times. I would rather have him get out here than get out in a Test match in a similar fashion,” he stated.
There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is going to be the key for India success on England’s tour. Virat is India’s best batsman and he will have to be at the top of his game for the visitors to savor success.
