Ireland opener Paul Stirling will be leading the Ireland team in the three-match series against England in September. Uncapped spinner Theo van Woerkom has earned a maiden call-up to the team for the ODI series against England following his impressive performance in domestic cricket.
Ireland will look to put their disappointing ODI World Cup qualifiers performance behind them to do well against a high-quality side like England. The team had a poor show in the qualifying event in Zimbabwe as they failed to produce an impactful performance. Earlier, the Paul Stirling-led side played a three-match T20 series against India on home soil, where they lost the series 2-0.
Ireland men’s national selector Andrew White said that the team has made a conscious decision to make a few important changes in the team going forward and revealed that Curtis Campher will move to the top of the order, as he has the ability to succeed.
White reckons that he can do well for the team and said that the team is looking to face England in the ODI series.
“While the squad has an overall familiar shape, there are several important changes we are going to look at,” Andrew White said.
