Eng vs WI 2017: Sachin Tendulkar Texts Brian Lara After Windies Won The Second Test

The West Indies cricket team shocked the cricketing world by beating England in the second test at Headingley, Leeds. After being humiliated in the first D/N Test match at Edgbaston by an innings and 209 runs, no one ever gave the Caribbean’s a chance to win the second Test match. However, Jason holder’s young and inexperienced side proved that they are in England to play and win.

Kraigg Braithwaite and Shai Hope led the West Indian comeback. Shai Hope became the first player in the history to score centuries in both the innings at Headingley. This performance has earned the West Indian plenty of praises from all over the world. Beating an English side at home has been tough for all the teams this season. Brian Lara in his MCC Spirit OF cricket Cowdrey speech revealed that he got a text from the great Sachin Tendulkar to congratulate for this huge victory.

Lara said Sachin texted that this victory over England was “a success the entire world needed.” Sachin played against the great West Indian team of the late 1980’s, and 1990’s believes the revival of the West Indies cricket is important for international cricket. Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar were both fierce competitors on the field but share an amicable relation of it.

Before the start of the second Test match, the West Indies team faced a lot of criticism for performing so poorly in the first Test match, Michael Vaughan even went on to say that this will be the “Saddest” series to watch.

However, the coach of the West Indies Cricket team Stuart Law has proven the critics wrong. After the success in the second Test match, he took a dig at former Essex team mate Nasser Hussain who after the fourth day’s play in the second Test said that the West Indies team is flagging because the physical demands of Test cricket are greater than T20 cricket.

To this Law responded by saying, “People make assumptions all the time, But he (Hussain) doesn’t know the characters that are inside that dressing room — he doesn’t even know me and I played with him at Essex,”

The third and final Test match starts on Thursday, 7th September at Lord’s, and West Indies will be looking forward to winning a series in England after 20 years.
