ENG vs WI 2017: Windies Recall Ashley Nurse for One-Off T20I Against England

Windies have recalled off-spinner Ashley Nurse for the one-off T20I against England on September 16, as they announced the 13-man squad on Friday (August 31).

Nurse, who last represented Windies in 2015, has replaced leg-spinner Samuel Badree who is unavailable due to prior commitments. Nurse, meanwhile, is the only change in the squad that defeated India in the solitary T20I last month at home.

Nurse, who is yet to prove his mettle at the international stage, has been going through an indifferent form in the Caribbean Premier League, right now, having gone wicketless for Trinbago Knight Riders in the two matches he has played this season.

However, the 22-year old, who has gone wicketless in his first four T20Is, impressed in Windies’ domestic circuit last year. He was the leading wicket-taker at the Regional Super50 last season, taking 26 wickets at a brilliant average of 12.50.

“We have a good mix of experience and youth that should adapt to English conditions quickly,” chairman of selectors, Courtney Browne said. “Coming off the series win against India in the Caribbean in July our expectations is to see the team play a highly competitive game and bring that T20 Caribbean atmosphere to England.”

Meanwhile, the team consists of several experienced and top T20 players like Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Marlon Samuels and Jerome Taylor. Gayle had returned to the T20I team last month during the one-off T20I series against India but had failed to make a mark. The first man to reach the 10,000-run mark in the shortest format of the game, the hard-hitting opening batsman was dismissed for just 18 and would look to get back to his devastating best in a country where he enjoys a stellar batting average.

Windies squad:

Carlos Brathwaite (c), Ronsford Beaton, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Marlon Samuels, Ashley Nurse, Jerome Taylor, Chadwick Walton (wk), Kesrick Williams
