Regular limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan is back in charge of the England setup as the selectors announced the squad for the ODIs and T20Is for the tour of India. The limited-overs leg of the tour will be played in January 2017, after the visitors return from home post the Tests. Morgan, who skipped the tour of Bangladesh citing security measures, is back as the captain.
Along with Morgan, destructive opener Alex Hales too makes a comeback to the national side, after he too opted out of the tour of Bangladesh. Hales is set to open alongside Surrey star Jason Roy for the ODI and T20I series. There weren’t too many surprises as far as the squad is concerned as only the exclusion of pacer Steven Finn was debatable.
A noticeable exclusion from the series triumph in Bangladesh was of young batsman Ben Duckett, who has endured a nightmare in India so far as his technique has been left to shambles against spin. Pacers Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan were roped in just as T20I specialists.
Before the three-match ODI series commences in Pune, England will face India A in a couple of warm up games on January 10 and 12th respectively at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The ODIs will be played at Pune, Cuttack and Kolkata on 15th, 19th and 22nd January respectively. The focus will then shift to the T20Is, which will be played in Kanpur, Nagpur and Bengaluru on 26th, 29th January and 1st February respectively.
