England has become the first team to scale down the mountain of 500,000 runs in the Test fold. The pioneer of the game took 1022 Test matches to get to the landmark and reached the feat in the ongoing fourth Test match against South Africa at Wanderers. England scored 192-4 on the opening day of the final Test match and they currently lead the series by 2-1.
On the other hand, Australia is second on the list as they have scored 432,706 runs in the red-ball version of the game. The Australians have taken 830 Test matches to score these many runs. The Indian team is the third side in the ladder as they have gathered 273,518 runs in the 540 Test matches they have played.

England sits at the top of the tree.
The West Indies who dominated the 1970s and 80s are fourth in the team’s list as they have accumulated 270,441 runs in 545 Test matches they have played. South Africa is in the fifth place as the Proteas have amassed 216,452 runs in 439 Test matches.
Pakistan takes the sixth place as they have 209,869 runs in 427 Test matches whereas New Zealand who has scored 204,172 runs in 440 Test matches takes the seventh place. Sri Lanka has thus far scored 145,218 in 288 Test matches they have played. Bangladesh has 53,115 runs in 117 Test matches while Zimbabwe has 49869 runs in 108 Test matches.

Meanwhile, England had a good start as their openers Zak Crawley and Dominic Sibley added 107 runs for the opening stand after captain Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat first. Zak Crawley scored his maiden fifty to give a good start to his team.
England skipper Joe Root and Ollie Pope have both scored half-centuries and they have added 101 runs between them for the fifth wicket alliance. Thus, England will look to post a big score in the first innings.
