England Coach Chris Silverwood has marked Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 will garner his players for the coming Twenty20 World Cup. But he has also warned them to not burn out as they would be living in a biosecure bubble for over three-month period until 10th November when IPL ends.
On Thursday (17 September), a total of 10 England players landed the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Out of 10, seven players participated in the ODI series against Australia which ended on Wednesday.
We need to make sure that they don’t burn out: Chris Silverwood
Chris Silverwood said that the England team management would monitor their player during the tournament. He opined that IPL was a preparatory stage as they aimed to build a team for T20 World Cup next year.
“It’s their decision really but we’ll have to keep an eye on them,” Chris Silverwood said after England’s three-wicket defeat in the third ODI at Manchester.
“Obviously, the contracts are good for them but equally as well we’re looking forward at a T20 World Cup. The more high-class T20 they can play will be a good thing for us.”
But the England coach has advised his players to keep in contact with the management. The reason being that he doesn’t want players to get mentally exhausted or feel workload.
“The one thing that I have encouraged is that they keep talking to us. We need to make sure that they don’t burn out as well.”
Morgan and other England players set to play in IPL 2020:
England captain Eoin Morgan, along with Tom Banton, will join the Kolkata Knight Riders Camp while Jos Buttler, Tom Curran and Jofra Archer will play for Rajasthan Royals.
Jonny Bairstow, the centurion in the last ODI against Australia, will join Sunrisers Hyderabad. The other two Moeen Ali and Sam Curran will join Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings respectively.
