According to cricket legend, Sunil Gavaskar England has an edge over India after the second day’s play at Chennai as the Englishmen still lead by 417 runs. England posted a total of 477 after their lower order stood up the task.
Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson were star performers lower down the order which saw England reach the total they have put up. Adil Rashid eventually got out at 60 but Dawson remained not out at the score of 66.
Gavaskar was quoted as saying, “Looking at their total of 477, I feel England have a slight edge in the match as India are still far behind.”
According to the legend, the plan to tackle the England batsmen should have been different as the Indian bowlers who have been impressive throughout the series looked out of ideas. Even Ravichandran Ashwin struggled on his home ground to pick up wickets as he could bag only one in the whole innings.
“Why didn’t the Indians attack Moeen Ali with short balls on Day 1. Also, the bowlers could have bowled fuller lengths more on Day 2 considering the nature of the wicket.”
In reply to England’s innings India have started well. They are currently batting at 173/1 with only Parthiv Patel back to the pavilion. KL Rahul has made an impressive start to his innings as he is still at the crease batting on 89 runs.
“If India can bat like England, then this match can end in a draw. The pitch is good though and India can score runs to give England a tough fight.”
