ENG v IND 2018: Zaheer Khan Says There are High Expectations from Kuldeep Yadav

The former Team India speedster Zaheer Khan is of the opinion that Kuldeep Yadav could be part of the first Test of the five-match series against England, starting August 1st in Edgbaston.

As the temperature in England hovers over 30 degrees, and the dry wickets would there on the offering, spinners can come into action.

Hence the former pacer feels playing two spinners might be beneficial for the visiting team. He thinks the expectations on Kuldeep is quite fair as he has been quite brilliant in the limited-overs format recently.

“Yes, if conditions are hot, it may be difficult for fast bowlers, but then you always have the option to play two specialist spinners. If the conditions remain like that, they (Indian team management) might be tempted to play two spinners,” Zaheer was quoted as saying by PTI.

Zaheer Khan stated the expectations on Kuldeep had increased ever since he performed at the top level. Zaheer said the left-arm spinner has to handle the pressure with guile and dedication.

“Why shouldn’t there be expectations? The expectations have grown since he has done well at the international level. When you do well, it is bound to happen, and he (Kuldeep) will have to handle that.”

The left-arm pacer expects the visitors to dominate the current side in England. He further stated a five-match Test series is always challenging.

“Everyone is saying that this will be the ‘Indian Summer’ in the UK. I am also expecting India to dominate. But we have to keep in mind that this is a five-Test series. Five-Test series can be very challenging. You need to show a lot of consistency. But what gives me hope is the manner in which they played in South Africa”.

India lost the Test series against the Proteas but earned a huge amount of respect for their fighting character. They bagged all the 60 wickets during the series. The team India made a strong comeback in the final match at Johannesburg in tough conditions.

“Yes, they lost the Test series (1-2), but the way the fought back in the final Test was impressive. The energy and approach they showed, give me a lot of hope,” said Zaheer.
