ENG vs IND 2018: I hope Test Cricket Doesn’t Die – Bishan Singh Bedi
Being a hardcore cricket fan, hearing the termination of Test cricket is always a hard thing to receive. Of late, a lot of modifications to Test cricket has been made and tried. Meanwhile, the Indian legend, Bishan Singh Bedi isn’t pleased a bit with the idea.
The former India player wants the top two teams, India and England to fight tooth and nail in upcoming five-match Test series, starting August 1st. He added both the sides should show the world why Test format is so special.
I wish Test cricket doesn’t die while I’m still alive – Bedi
Bedi strongly feels Test cricket must continue in the International cricket arena. He wants the five-day format to be active at least till he is alive.
Bedi furtherly questions the remodifications and asks whether the cut-short has happened to any other sport.
”My philosophy is simple. I hope for the best but I’m also prepared for the worst. I hope and wish that Test cricket doesn’t die while I’m still alive. It must flourish, it has to flourish to keep cricket alive. What are we looking for? The game of cricket must not lose out on its character,” Bedi said as per the lines on The Independent.
“Can you imagine any other sport doing what cricket has done? People don’t have time to play golf so they cut it down from 18 holes to three holes. It wouldn’t happen. It wouldn’t happen in football either. Or any other sport. The basic character of cricket is that it’s played leisurely over five days – not bloody 20 overs or 100 balls, which is even more ridiculous. We need England and India to remind the world just why Test cricket is so special,” he added.
As Bedi said, the series between India and England is going to be one heck of a contest with a lot of talent from either side is at the display. Of late, Test cricket lost its mojo but the epic clash between India and England, hopefully, brings it back.
Kuldeep Yadav has been a revelation – Bedi
Bishan Singh Bedi furtherly heaped praises on the special talent, Kuldeep Yadav. He wants BCCI to preserve Kuldeep Yadav for longer versions of the game without exposing him in T20I and ODI format.
“He has been quite a revelation – I’ve enjoyed watching him. But my contention has always been that we have to preserve this kid (Yadav). He has to preserved for the longest form of the game. I’m not very enthused by him in T20 and one-day cricket – he has done well, but he must be preserved for the longest version, which is Test cricket,” Bedi said.
“Kuldeep is different, he’s a very, very special variety of spinner – the sort we don’t see very often. The last one we saw do it really well was Sir Garfield Sobers and he wasn’t too sure about it either. He would end up as an orthodox spinner or a left-arm quick, which shows you not just what an amazing talent he was but also just how hard it is to bowl,” he inferred.
All in all, Bishan Singh Bedi wants a perfect blend of entertainment from India and England in the upcoming Test series. As Bedi said, Indian team management has to take care of Kuldeep Yadav who is a very rare talent.
