IND v ENG: Keaton Jennings Debut Fifty Gives England Strong Start At Wankhede
Just when it looked like England team grab honors in the first session of the Wankhede, Sir Ravindra Jadeja came in as a ray of hope for the hosts and it was on the third delivery of his first over when Alastair Cook was stumped, trying to replicate the shot which he couldn’t execute well in the previous over of Jayant Yadav. It was a suicidal attempt by the skipper to go after a newly introduced bowler, that too just 15 minutes before lunch.
Earlier in the day, England took a brave call to bat first in the conditions favoring fast bowlers in the first session of the day. The two fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav started off well. The early morning tale of Mohali saga continued as chances were created again but on one occasion, there was no fielder deployed at the checkpoint and on the other, a tough chance was dropped by Karun Nair, that too of Keaton Jennings, who went on to score a half-century on his Test debut.
He took some time to settle and then started to show his class. The South African-born left-handed batsman scored back to back boundaries off Umesh Yadav to score his first run in international cricket and then continued this style of play until the break.
Lunch Break: England – 117/1 (Jennings 65*, Cook 46; Jadeja 1-6)
