India was able to put their noses in front after a fine comeback in the final session. The tourists scalped six wickets for 122 runs in the third session to reduce England to 285 for 9 at the end of Day 1 play. Let’s take you on the journey of Statistical Highlights of Day 1 of the 1st Test match.

Ravichandran Ashwin has got the better of Ben Stokes on five occasions. Thus, this is the most number of times that any bowler has dismissed the England all-rounder.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s first-day figures of 4-60 are the fourth best for an Indian spinner on the opening day of Test match while playing outside Asia. Meanwhile, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar has the best figures of 6/94 against New Zealand in 1976.

Joe Root has scored 12 half-centuries in each of the Test matches he has played against India in the longest format. Thus, it the most by any batsman against any team.

England captain Joe Root is the third youngest batsman to scale 6000 Test runs. Root achieved the feat when he is 27 years and 214 days old. Sachin Tendulkar is the youngest to the landmark having got there while 26 years and 313 days old.

Joe Root has taken the minimum number of days from his debut to reach the milestone of 6000 Test runs. He took 2058 days while Alastair Cook is the closest to him with 2168 days.

Root is the third place as far as the number of innings taken to complete 6000 Test runs is concerned among the English batsmen. He took 127 innings while Wally Hammond, who leads the table, took 114 innings.
