England dominated the first session of day one of Edgbaston Test, as they scored 83 runs for the loss of one wicket. Joe Root decided to bat first after winning the toss.
India’s pace battery, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav could not get their line and length at the right place.
However, Ravichandran Ashwin was able to scalp the wicket of Alastair Cook. In fact, this was the eighth time when Ashwin was able to take the wicket of Cook in the red-ball version.
England won the first session of the series.
The southpaw opener Keaton Jennings was given a second life when Ajinkya Rahane bungled a catch when the batsman was on just nine runs. However, the left-hander finished, as the leading run-scorer in the session with 38 runs to his name off 77 balls.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami was right on the money with his line and length. Shami was able to get the maximum balls in the corridor of uncertainty and asked difficult questions to England batters.
However, Keaton Jennings and skipper Joe Root were able to get a good partnership going, as they took hosts to 83 runs. The pair was also able to bring their 50-runs partnership as well. Root is currently unconquered on 31 runs off 63 balls.
Meanwhile, Indian bowlers must hit the right line and length to savour success. However, Ashwin was more threatening against the left-handed batsmen.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli dropped Cheteshwar Pujara, as he continued to surprise with his selection. Pujara didn’t have the best of County season, as he scored 172 runs for Yorkshire.
