England vs India 2018: 4th Test, Southampton – Statistical Preview

Team India will look to level the series when they face host England in the fourth of the five-match Test series at Southampton starting from August 30 (Thursday).

Meanwhile, the visitors’ will be brimming with confidence following their win at Trent Bridge. Virat Kohli & Co defeated England by 203 runs following their loss in the first two Tests.

India will have to win or at least draw in a bid to save the Test series. It will be a competitive encounter while England will aim to seal the series.

There are quite a handful of records to be broken at Southampton in the fourth Test.

Here are the statistical previews of the fourth Test between England and India at Southampton:

  • India have come back from 0-2 to level the series 2-2 twice so far — against West Indies at home in 1974-75 and in Australia in 1977-78. India, however, lost the fifth Test on both occasions.

  • Virat Kohli needs just 6 runs to reach the 6,000-run mark in Test cricket. Kohli will become the 10th Indian and 66th overall to the landmark. He also has the chance to leave behind Gundappa Viswanath (6,080) and secure the 9th position on the list of India’s leading run-scorer in Tests.

  • Kohli also has the chance to become the joint second-fastest to cross the 6,000-run mark in Tests. He has scored 5,994 runs in 118 innings while second-placed Sachin Tendulkar achieved the feat of scoring 6,000 runs in 120 innings. Sunil Gavaskar leads the list by reaching the milestone in his 116th innings.

  • The India skipper needs 60 runs to reach the 500-run mark in the ongoing series. Of Indians, only Rahul Dravid (602 in 2002) and Gavaskar (542 in 1979) have done this. Dravid had also scored 461 in 2011.

  • England pace spearhead James Anderson (557) needs 7 more wickets to go past Glenn McGrath and seal the 4th spot on the list of all-time wicket-takers (and become the top wicket-takers among fast bowlers).

  • Stuart Broad (428) needs 4 more wickets to go past Rangana Herath and seal the 9th spot on the list of all-time wicket-takers.

  • Ishant Sharma needs just one wicket to reach the 250-wicket mark in Test cricket. Ishant will be the 3rd Indian fast bowler, 7th Indian, and 43rd overall to do this.
