Former World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev has slammed India after the series loss against England. India lost the fourth Test match by 60 runs and thus England was able to take an unassailable lead of 3-1.

The former talisman all-rounder criticised the team for not learning from their mistakes. India had lost the series against South Africa and now they have also lost against England.

Meanwhile, Kapil Dev believes India had a stronger team on paper than the England team. However, they were not able to come up roses in the English conditions. Furthermore, the tourists were heavily reliant on the shoulders of their skipper, Virat Kohli.

“Indian team has been committing too many mistakes. India was better on paper but England outclassed us. We just can’t always depend on one or two players,” Kapil told media on the sidelines of an army event in the capital.

In fact, Kapil Dev said India needs to learn from its mistakes. The visitors were in a commanding position at some places. However, they were not able to capitalize on the situations. Thus, they gave away the advantage baton to England and allowed them to make a comeback.

“Indian team needs to learn from its mistakes. The only way you can become a better team is when you don’t repeat your mistake or repeat the mistakes more often. In this series, India was on in a good position to finish the match but they had given England many chances to bounce back.”

On the other hand, India is reliant heavily on the shoulders of their captain, Virat Kohli who has done the bulk of the scoring. However, they need to play collectively as a group to come with stronger performances.

“I am concerned about the system in Indian cricket and not bothered about what others are doing right or wrong. We just have to do things right. I don’t believe that Team India should depend on only one player. Whenever you are going to win a series or a tournament. India should play collectively and that is not happening.”

It has been a disappointing series for the visitors. After being 2-0 down, they were always catching up and the comeback was always going to be difficult.

The tourists might ponder to make some changes to their playing XI in the next Test match. The fourth Test match will place at the Kennington Oval from 7th of September.
