Regarding the injury of India’s premier off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, the concerns over his fitness are getting higher and higher ahead of the Southampton Test. The spin wizard of India suffered a groin strain, and in the Trent Bridge Test, he played with hip stress.
India will find itself in a do or die situation against England in the fourth Test at Southampton. The former Indian cricketer, Mohinder Amarnath shed light on the importance of Ashwin in the Indian cricket team. He said despite the fact Ashwin is not up to the mark; he must be present in the playing eleven.
Mohinder Amarnath on Ravichandran Ashwin
“Despite his injury, Ashwin will definitely be in the scheme of things for the fourth Test. Should he not be able to play, Ravindra Jadeja is the best bet to replace him,” Amarnath suggested in his Times of India column.
Mohinder Amarnath, who had played 59 Tests for team India praised Virat Kohli for his attitude.
He lauded Men in Blue for a grand comeback against England in Trent Bridge. India outclassed England in the third Test and wrapped up the match with a win of 203 runs.
“It was a remarkable recovery by the Indian team in Nottingham. They showed they are at par with England and once again it was the captain, Virat Kohli, who played the main role. India were superb as a unit but you can only win when you have runs on the board, so the boys should take a leaf out of the captain’s book.”
He sings the praises of Virat Kohli by saying it reminds him of Viv Richards of West Indies.
In the ongoing series, Virat Kohli has already amassed 440 runs in just three matches. Apart from two tons, Virat Kohli has two half-centuries in the series as well.
“Once he occupies the crease, he is always looking for runs. He reminds me of Viv Richards, who would do the same thing. I’ve never seen anyone playing with so much authority, and so consistently. He is a match-winner. Whenever he performs India have always done well,” Amarnath wrote.
