The southpaw wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is all set to make his Test debut at Trent Bridge in the third Test match against England. Pant was seen practising in the net sessions which have raised hopes of his first appearance at the big stage.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik has failed to hit the ground running in England. The experienced Tamil Nadu batsman has scored only 26 runs in the two Test matches. Furthermore, the right-hander has not ticked all the boxes with his wicketkeeping.
Rishabh Pant has impressed with his pyrotechnics.
Therefore, the combative batsman from Delhi, Rishabh Pant is in contention to make his debut for India. In fact, Pant has impressed with the bat on the recent tour of India A to England. Furthermore, he was in emphatic form in the Indian Premier League.
Meanwhile, India A coach Rahul Dravid is impressed with the way Pant has shown the promise to adjust to different situations.
“Rishabh Pant showed that he could bat differently. He has the temperament and skills to bat differently. We are glad he has been picked in the national team and I hope he takes this maturity into the national team and hopefully builds from thereon,” Dravid opined.
On the other hand, it is believed that Pant only knows to bat in the topmost gear. However, it is going to be interesting to note how he will adjust to the biggest challenge in England at the topmost stage.
Meanwhile, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri has made it clear that an update regarding Pant will be made today.
“You will only know about Pant at 11 am on Saturday,” Shastri said.
Given the poor form of Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant can be given a go in the playing XI.
